The first base on the tour is in Akureyri, the cultural capital of North Iceland, where you will have time to soak in the friendly atmosphere of the town and to visit Lake Myvatn and see its diverse locations. At the end of your break, you will stay in Reykjavik and enjoy life in our capital. A great mixture of culture and nature all across the island.
Experience some of the most beautiful nature in Iceland, glistening glaciers, active volcanoes, powerful waterfalls, gushing geysers, and colorful landscapes but there is so much more to this island in the North. Iceland has an exceptionally rich history and the tales and sagas are endless if you have someone to tell you. Join a guided 8-day tour in a small group that will give you the opportunity to take your Iceland experience to another level.
The Lake Mvatn area is by many considered the most beautiful and diverse place in Iceland. This rural area is calmer and more easygoing than the larger towns, and you can be sure to find the comfort and tranquillity you need. It is also in the driest part of Iceland and therefore has the least cloud coverage which is a positive factor when searching for the Northern Lights. On this 6 Day winter short break we offer four fabulous day tours, including an exclusive caving tour to Lofthellir Ice Cave and a Super Jeep tour to Dettifoss Waterfall. Also included are a domestic flight in Iceland and of course all accommodation.
Travel around Iceland in eight days, taking in the highlights of the Ring Road, with the option of closing your tour by traversing the uninhabited interior of Iceland via the Kjolur highland track (weather permitting). Throughout this tour, you will discover magical natural wonders, majestic landscapes and the unique character for which Iceland is renowned.
Kjolur highland track is generally open mid-June through August; 4WD vehicle required.
Advised car type: Toyota Auris or higher / Toyota RAV4 4WD or higher if going through Kjolur.
You’ll also enjoy the benefits of a relaxed traveling pace and minimal hotel changes through your stay, so there‘s more time to experience the true essence of Iceland‘s nature and culture.
Each day enjoys inspiring guided short hikes on trails in both world-famous areas as well as lesser-known but equally fantastic destinations. Some examples include majestic Asbyrgi Canyon, the beloved Thorsmork and Myvatn Nature Reserves and the colorful Landmannalaugar hot spring wilderness. Your expert guide will also share Icelandic stories and folktales connected to the areas where you hike. A highlight of the trip is a visit to charming Siglufjordur, a town becoming known for its excellent outdoor recreation.
At the end of the day, relax in comfortable countryside hotels with private bathroom facilities. Several hotels have outdoor geothermal hot tubs a perfect way to end a day on scenic trails!
This tour combines enjoyable short hikes with sightseeing in a small coach or tour van. Each hike generally ranges from 1- 5 hours, with the longest hiking done on Day 6. Hikes offered during the tour are a mixture of easy and moderate routes. Participants do not need to be expert hikers, but they should be in reasonable physical shape. The trip hiking is also designed to be flexible: each day’s hiking will be adjusted to your group’s general fitness level, weather and trail conditions.
A big appeal of hiking in Iceland is that it is an authentic, natural experience. This means most hiking paths in Iceland are not paved. Expect trails to have lava rocks, loose gravel, soft dirt and muddy areas. In some cases, trails follow narrow paths created from sheep trails. We highly recommend that you bring hiking poles/alpine walking sticks on this tour.
The guide has the right to change hiking routes in the itinerary based on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Some of the days involve driving on unpaved wilderness tracks in the highlands. Be prepared to expect bumpy roads! It‘s all part of the authentic adventure and fun of exploring the highlands!
This classic circular road trip of Iceland, Iceland Odyssey, gives travelers both flexibility and time to spend at each of Iceland’s most popular attractions.
Apart from experiencing all the natural treasures accessed via the Ring Road such as Geysir, Seljalandsfoss, and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, this tour dedicates two whole days to the wonders of South West Iceland, including the Borgarfjordur fjord and the mystic Snaefellsnes Glacier.
