Your expert guide will also share Icelandic stories and folktales connected to the areas where you hike. A highlight of the trip is a visit to charming Siglufjordur, a town becoming known for its excellent outdoor recreation.
At the end of the day, relax in comfortable countryside hotels with private bathroom facilities. Several hotels have outdoor geothermal hot tubs a perfect way to end a day on scenic trails!
This tour combines enjoyable short hikes with sightseeing in a small coach or tour van. Each hike generally ranges from 1- 5 hours, with the longest hiking done on Day 6. Hikes offered during the tour are a mixture of easy and moderate routes. Participants do not need to be expert hikers, but they should be in reasonable physical shape. The trip hiking is also designed to be flexible: each day’s hiking will be adjusted to your group’s general fitness level, weather and trail conditions.
A big appeal of hiking in Iceland is that it is an authentic, natural experience. This means most hiking paths in Iceland are not paved. Expect trails to have lava rocks, loose gravel, soft dirt and muddy areas. In some cases, trails follow narrow paths created from sheep trails. We highly recommend that you bring hiking poles/alpine walking sticks on this tour.
The guide has the right to change hiking routes in the itinerary based on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Some of the days involve driving on unpaved wilderness tracks in the highlands. Be prepared to expect bumpy roads! It‘s all part of the authentic adventure and fun of exploring the highlands!
Experience the otherworldly volcanic landscapes of Iceland’s uninhabited interior. With an especially 4x4 mountain coach, travel off the beaten track through the untamed highlands of Iceland, highlighted by the multi-colored mountains of the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve and the barren black sands of Sprengisandur. When combined with other major attractions such as the Geysir geothermal area, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, and Dettifoss waterfall, this tour is sure to conquer the hearts of all first-time visitors, as well as those who have been here before.
Inspired by the locals we invite you to leave city life behind and join us on our two-day Landmannalaugar tour. An experience which gives you a totally new dimension of winter traveling where the guests and staff blend together as one team, taking an active part in all of the upcoming adventures.
When Icelanders want adventure they head for Landmannalaugar during wintertime on a journey with unforeseen challenges. When they reach their destination they bathe in the stunning geothermal natural pool and enjoy being alone with nature, surrounded by the stars and the dancing northern lights.
We will start this tour in Landmannalaugar, a geothermal wonderland, and make our way south through the Highlands. On the way, we will view fields of obsidian, red and yellow mountains, black sands and sparkling white glaciers. The Laugavegur trail ends in Thorsmörk, a green valley nestled at the foot of the famous glacier Eyjafjallajökull.
From Thorsmork we hike up to the newest craters at Fimmvörduháls named Magni and Móði, after the sons of Thor, the Norse god of thunder. The area is still warm since the eruption in 2010. On this 6 days trek, you experience some of the best Icelandic nature has to offer glaciers, volcanoes, lava fields, and geothermal colors and hot springs. The track is maintained and your guide will ensure you do not miss the best spots along the way, explain the scenery around you and geological history of Iceland.
Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trek was chosen one of "20 Best Hikes In The World" by National Geographic!
