Visiting Mexico is a splendid choice, especially if you live somewhere with a cold winter. With an assortment of things to do for the entire family of all ages and interests, Mexico is hands-down one of the perfect family destinations. Regardless of whether you are adventurous, a history buff or, you are simply looking for a laid-back vacation, Mexico promises a satisfying experience.
1. El Arco
The most impressive landmark in Cabos San Lucas is El Arco, the famous hole in the rock formation. To see this spectacular arch, you can either take a shuttle boat, or kayak at your own pace, or parasail over the arch. No matter what you do, you are sure to be amazed by the natural rock formation and the view of the Pacific waters crashing against the rock. Be on the lookout for seals basking on the rocks and bobbing in and out of the water.
2. Isla Mujeres
If you find Cancun a bit overwhelming, check out Isla Mujeres, Cancun’s peaceful little sister. The best way to enjoy Isla Mujeres is by renting a golf cart and driving around the island. Stop at several lookout points to enjoy magnificent views of the blue Caribbean waters, then to explore the Ixchel Temple and to check out the turtles in Tortugranja (Turtle Farm). If you simply want to lounge on the beach, head over to white sand Playa Norte.
3. Playa Del Carmen
For a sparkling nightlife, visit Playa Del Carmen, one of the trendiest cities in Quintana Roo. The city has managed to attract a hip, cosmopolitan crowd with its swanky stores, restaurants and bars. An evening stroll along the 5th Avenue, all the way to El Zócalo is a must!
4. Cozumel
Ideal for a day trip from Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel is a very popular snorkeling destination. Even if you don’t enjoy snorkeling, the beautiful island of Cozumel is still worth the visit. Rent a scooter and drive around the island.
5. Chichen Itza
This historic Mayan archaeological site attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. The site, although very touristy and crowded is well-worth the day trip from Cancun or from Merida. The complexity of the pyramids and other stone structures of Chichén Itzá is a testament to the Mayans’ complex vision of the universe.
6. Rio Secreto
Exploring the underground rivers is a must-do while visiting the Mexican Riviera. With a bit of fear and plenty of fascination, there are lots of secrets awaiting for you to uncover at Rio Secreto!
7. Loltun Caves
Lol-tun, literally means “stone flower”. Though these caves were created by water a million years ago, today these caves are dry. However, one can still see evidence of sea animals that occupied the caves. A few remarkable features inside the caves are the long Cathedral, the two pillars that make alternate sounds of ‘lol’ and ‘tun’ when banged with your hands, the massive canyon formations, the Loltun’s head that was carved by the Mayans and hand paintings.
8. Tulum
Renowned for its archaeological ruins along the Caribbean waters, fortunately Tulum is still a quaint town compared to Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Ideal for a short trip from Playa Del Carmen, Tulum is something you must add to your itinerary.
