Velaa Private Island
Velaa is one of the few resorts in the Maldives with their own seaplane, a 40-minute seaplane and you arrive at Velaa Private Island.
Velaa Private Island is a boutique luxury resort with only 47 rooms. The island is a testament to its owner Jiri Smejc. He fell in love with the Maldives many years ago and his passion for the islands has resulted in him building an island that is the ultimate luxury resort with the perfect balance between privacy and engagement. Named after the sea turtle, the ‘velaa’ theme runs throughout the resort.
During your stay for a small island, the resort is very well planned to make sure that it comes complete with everything you need for the perfect luxury getaway. There is plenty to do and see and we have handpicked some of our favorites.
Why We Love Soneva Jani:
We love for the Gathering. This is the central hub of the resort which is like a huge three-story wooden
castle out of a fairytale that has a tunnel running through it. It is home to various dining outlets as well as the spa, library, retail area and wine cellar. It is located next to the Observatory. yes, they even have an observatory built over the water where you can stargaze with their in-house astronomer!
While you are on the island don’t miss out on a chance to visit the spa. It is also located in The Gathering. We love the couples' massage. Once you explain all your aches and pains and tell them about all your favorite types of massages they will custom make you one that is just right for you and your partner. But before you leave the island, there are two last things to experience, if you are a fan of chocolate like most of us, live out your Willy Wonka dreams at the Chocolate Rooms and have the’ So Star Struck’, the astronomy dinner under the stars with one of the largest telescopes in the Maldives.
